UST Dominates FEU in Final Game of Lackluster UAAP Season

UST secured a 57-53 win over FEU in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament’s closing game, signaling the end of an underwhelming campaign for the Growling Tigers. Despite blowing a 15-point lead, UST managed to stay composed throughout and secure the victory. UST coach Pido Jarencio commended his players’ composure and credited it for the win, adding that their perseverance paid off, ending the season with just two wins. In their first round encounter last October 22, UST defeated FEU 68-62, securing another victory. The Tigers finished last in the standings, ending the season at 2-12, while FEU also concluded their campaign at 3-11.

UST appeared to have control of the game early, taking a 51-40 lead midway through the fourth quarter. However, FEU rallied to make it a one-possession game, trailing 56-53 after a Jorick Bautista three-pointer with under a minute left. UST guard Paul Manalang managed to hit a free throw, leaving the final score at 57-53 with 16.9 ticks to go. Christian Manaytay led UST with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Migs Pangilinan contributed 10 points and five rebounds. Despite an off night, Nic Cabañero managed to add eight points to the tally.

LJ Gonzales scored only four points in his final UAAP game, with Bautista leading FEU with a game-high 17 points. FEU also wrapped up their season with a 3-11 record.
