UP aims to reclaim crown, La Salle strives for lost glory in UAAP
The Season 86 UAAP men’s basketball championship series is underway and it features the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons looking to reclaim the title they lost last season against a surging De La Salle University team. This is the first time the two teams are facing each other in a best-of-three finals showdown.
The Fighting Maroons are aiming for their fourth overall championship in their third straight finals appearance. They have become one of the best collegiate teams in the country, with a strong team under coach Goldwin Monteverde. Despite some setbacks, they have remained a formidable force, securing their best elimination record and avenging a defeat to Ateneo in the Final Four.
On the other hand, La Salle is returning to the biggest stage after six years and is determined to end a seven-year title drought. The Green Archers have been dominant, winning nine consecutive games to secure the No. 2 seed in the eliminations and clinching a spot in the finals.
This championship series is significant for both teams, with UP looking to continue their winning momentum and La Salle eager to clinch their 10th championship. It is set to be an intense and closely contested matchup, with both teams eyeing victory in the finals.
