Trail Blazers Stage Incredible Comeback, Defeat Suns 109-104 in NBA Showdown

PORTLAND, Oregon — DeAndre Ayton scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Anfernee Simons managed 23 points and seven rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers claimed a 109-104 victory over the Phoenix Suns after coming back from a 22-point deficit that ended their seven-game losing streak.

Phoenix registered its fifth loss in seven games despite Kevin Durant’s 40 points and Devin Booker’s 26 points and seven assists.

Simons secured the win with a layup 10.7 seconds before the end of the game to thwart Phoenix’s late rally after Portland extended its lead to 14 in the fourth quarter.

Jerami Grant contributed 22 points for Portland, accompanied by Malcolm Brogdon, who added 14 points and four assists off the bench. Brogdon stepped in for Shaedon Sharpe, who exited the game due to a groin injury.

Portland’s 3-point accuracy and improved ball possession in the second half were key factors in their victory, making 14 of 28 3-pointers and reducing turnovers from 11 in the first half to just six in the second.

Portland finally took the lead with 6:06 left in the third quarter, outscoring Phoenix 38-20 in that period and leading 87-81 going into the final quarter.

Phoenix initially led 36-20 in the first quarter and extended their lead to 22 in the first half, but Portland turned the game around by making better use of the ball possession and 3-point opportunities.

Suns: Play Friday at the Sacramento Kings.

Trail Blazers: Host the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.
