The Showdown: SMC Sister Squads Face Off
Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beer want nothing more than to atone for past losses and start a challenging Christmas week with a win. The sister teams have a game on Friday, both aiming for better rankings in the middle of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup standings. Ginebra currently holds the fourth spot with a 4-2 record after a defeat to Phoenix. San Miguel has slipped to 3-3 after back-to-back losses, the most recent against unbeaten leader Magnolia. Both teams are affected by injuries, with Ginebra missing Scottie Thompson and Jamie Malonzo recently returning from an injured wrist. San Miguel faces a bigger dilemma being without six key players. The Beermen, however, managed to add Don Trollano to their lineup in a trade and he will have the chance to prove his skills in an upcoming game. San Miguel also faces TNT on Sunday, then Ginebra faces Meralco next. TNT will face Blackwater on the same Friday.
