New York Knicks Secure Wildcard Spot in NBA Tournament with Dominating Victory over Charlotte Hornets
The New York Knicks have advanced to the NBA In-Season Tournament quarterfinals and will meet the Milwaukee Bucks for a chance to reach the Final Four in Las Vegas. The Knicks were unaware of the tournament’s workings, thinking initially that they were Vegas-bound upon winning.
Julius Randle scored 25 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, while RJ Barrett contributed 16 points to secure the Knicks’ 115-91 victory over the Charlotte Hornets, paving their way to the knockout stage.

Immanuel Quickley, a reserve guard for the Knicks, expressed surprise at the tournament’s operations, revealing that the team initially anticipated a trip to Vegas after victory. The Knicks earned a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference due to their point differential in the preliminary round, after losing their chance to win Group B when the Bucks beat the Miami Heat to finish unbeaten in pool play.
Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau expressed readiness to face the Bucks, despite already having four scheduled meetings with them this season. He emphasizes that the team would be prepared, regardless of however many games they are scheduled to play.
The New York bench outscored Charlotte’s 50-35, with Quickley contributing 23 points and Josh Hart adding 17 to the Knicks’ victory.
Both Brandon Miller and Mark Williams made significant contributions to the Hornets, scoring 18 and 12 points, respectively. However, the team’s efforts fell short as they suffered a season-low score of 91 points against the Knicks.
Knicks and Hornets were closely matched in the third quarter, but the former surged ahead owing to their superior performance, maintaining a steady lead in the game. The Hornets struggled and eventually succumbed to a 115-91 defeat.
The Knicks will next face the East’s No. 1 seed, while the Hornets remain in New York to play against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night. The Knicks will host the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night as well.
