Mapua University’s NCAA Promise: No Letup After Making Finals Return
MANILA, Philippines—Mapua guard Clint Escamis said after advancing to the NCAA Season 99 Finals at the expense of College of St. Benilde, 78-67, that the Cardinals will be “obsessed” with their preparations for their next opponent—Lyceum or San Beda in the championship round.
Escamis, the MVP frontrunner, emphasized that the Cardinals don’t mind who their opponent is going to be in the Finals and they will prepare hard for whoever wins.

The Cardinals are now waiting for the collision between the Red Lions and the Pirates, who hold a twice-to-beat advantage after finishing at No. 2.
If San Beda wins, it would forge a rubber match set on Friday, giving Mapua more time to rest and prepare.
Coach Randy Alcantara emphasized the importance of the players recovering both physically and mentally in preparation for the Finals while also taking lighthearted digs at Escamis.
“With regard to drills, maybe I’ll make this guy (Escamis) shoot 5,000 free throws,” Alcantara said.
The last time Mapua reached the Finals was just two seasons ago when it got swept by Letran.
