La Salle and National University have been strong in the UAAP Season 86 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, heading into the Final Four as the only unbeaten teams. Kevin Quiambao and Jainaba Konateh played a key role in this.

Quiambao’s rare second triple-double led La Salle to secure a Final Four spot, while Konateh navigated NU to its ninth straight win. For this, Quiambao and Konateh were honored as the UAAP Men’s and Women’s Players of the Week by the Collegiate Press Corps.

Showing outstanding all-around performance, Quiambao recorded another triple-double, completing 17 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 assists, along with four steals and two blocks. He became the first player in modern league history to achieve multiple triple-doubles in a single season.

He previously scored 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 14 assists in La Salle’s victory over NU which was the league’s first triple-double since 2018. Additionally, Quiambao showed an impressive performance against the University of the Philippines, dropping 22 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals.

The Green Archers secured a semifinal spot with a notable 69-57 victory over Adamson, thanks to Quiambao’s 11 points and 11 rebounds. With an average of 16.7 points, 14.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.7 steals in the past three games, Quiambao contributed significantly to La Salle’s success.

Konateh also showcased a remarkable performance for Lady Bulldogs in Season 86, securing at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat berth. With averages of 10.0 points and 13.0 rebounds, Konateh has been a consistently strong presence for the team on both ends of the court.
