Cavaliers Hand Pistons 10th Consecutive Loss in NBA Showdown

CLEVELAND — Darius Garland scored 28 points as the Cavaliers beat Detroit 108-100, ending the Pistons’ 10-game losing streak. Mobley and Strus each added 18 points as Cleveland won an NBA In-Season Tournament game Friday night.

Mobley and Porter each had noteworthy performances for Cleveland. Jarrett Allen contributed 10 points and five blocked shots. Shooting guard Donovan Mitchell was absent due to a hamstring strain. Cunningham led Detroit with 20 points and eight assists; Knox added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cavaliers improved to 1-1 in East Group A, while Detroit is 0-3. Garland led with 28 points while Mobley and Strus chipped in 18 each. Thompson, Ivey, and Stewart were the top performers for Detroit.

Strus stood out in the first quarter scoring 13 points and contributing to the sellout crowd’s excitement. Cleveland made 17 of its first 23 shots and built a 16-point lead. Detroit closed the gap in the third but Garland and Cunningham came up big for their respective teams.

Detroit was without starting center Jalen Duren and swingman Joe Harris. Pistons will visit Toronto, while Cavaliers will host NBA champion Denver in their next games.
