Alex Eala Makes Impressive Quarterfinal Entry in Luxembourg

MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala reached the W40 Kyotec Open quarterfinals after defeating Johanne Christine Svendsen of Denmark on Friday in Petange, Luxembourg.

The 18-year-old Filipina continued her strong performance by eliminating Svendsen with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, following her previous 6-3, 6-2 win over Angelina Wirges of Germany in the first round.

Currently ranked World No. 204, Eala is set to face off against qualifier Jasmijn Gimbrere of the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Gimbrere, who defeated Julia Avdeeva 6-3, 6-4 in the second round, is prepared to challenge Eala in their upcoming match.

A product of the Rafael Nadal Academy, Eala is vying for her fifth International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles crown as she aims to build on her previous accomplishments, including reaching the semifinals of the W60 Nantes in France and being a two-time Asian Games bronze medalist.

Additionally, Eala and Zyenep Sonmez of Turkiye are scheduled to compete against top seed pair Ali Collins of Great Britain and Isabelle Haverlag of the Netherlands in the doubles semifinals on the same day.

The duo secured their spot in the semifinals after defeating Anita Wagner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Katarina Kozarov of Serbia with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals.
