Von Latta Technique

How To Practice The Von Latta Technique

When you go to a chiropracter for lower back problems, he will often apply traction. When he attaches weights to your feets, legs or neck, the force is static and general. With this technique you will be able to apply the same force to specific areas of your back and you will be able to apply a variety of pressure techniques.

Because of the dynamics of the Von Latta Technique, a triangular force is established which allows you to directly exert pressure on any single part of the lower spine as you choose. In the Perfect Pyramid the force exerted by your arms will be directly applied to that part of the lower back in a straight line between your hands (fig. 12).

When you start with your hands high on your thighs, the upper part of your lower back is affected. As you move your hands to the middle of your thighs and exert the force it will be directly translated into pressure on the middle part of the lower back. As your hands reach the far extreme that you can reach and exert force you will feel it in the lowermost part of your back. Fig. 12 demonstrates the triangular nature of the Von Latta Technique traction.
